Charter schools are providing new and dynamic mechanisms for better student outcomes. Nationally there are around 700 charter schools and each one is pursuing ways to rethink instructional delivery in order to meet students’ needs. Research shows that many charter schools outperform similar district-run schools. However, a significant number of charter schools underperform compared to traditional schools.
In our work with charter schools, iSTEEP has learned that many charters lack the district level infrastructure for benchmark assessments, screening, and formative assessments. Often each person wears many hats and seeks to be as efficient as possible while remaining aware of accountability demands.
Our assessments provide charter schools with the right data and the right time to determine which students are meeting important benchmarks and objectives and which students need help. We also provide formative assessments to help schools ensure each student excels to their true potential. Importantly we help charters use their time and resources effectively by offering online training to get educators up and running quickly. Most assessments are computer conducted or computer assisted thus reducing staff time significantly.
