Description

This webinar will provide training on the STEEP RTI process for middle and high schools. The primary focus will be on RTI for reading where participants will first learn to conduct and interpret universal screening. Next, participants will learn a standard protocol for interpreting screening data, indentifying students who need intervention, determining an appropriate intervention, setting up progress monitoring, and interpreting progress monitoring data. This standard protocol follows and easy to use six step process which increases the ease and accuracy of decision-making. Interventions appropriate for middle and high school students will be described. Although the primary focus will be on RTI for reading, the math assessment and intervention process will be reviewed briefly.

Who Should Attend

The workshop is intended for professionals who have some knowledge about RTI process. The training would be appropriate for administrators, coaches, teachers, school psychologists, instructional leaders and others with an interest in RTI. Professionals who intend to implement RTI in the secondary school would benefit as would individuals seeking additional information about tools and procedures available for older students.

Training Format and Goals

Training will be divided into two components:

1. E-learning. Professionals will receive a secondary RTI manual and will be enrolled in e-learning courses. Prior to the webinar they will complete the course at their own pace via an internet connection. This course provides training in skills essential to conducting RTI and can generally be completed within one hour.
2. Webinar. The webinar will involve a 2 hour live session with the two presenters. There will be an opportunity to ask questions.

The goal of the workshop is to train participants in the use of the middle and high school RTI process.

Presenters

Joseph C. Witt, PhD
Senior Scientist, iSTEEP Learning

Dr. Witt is head of research and development for iSTEEP Learning which focuses on RTI implementation in states and school districts. His work, including over 150 papers and books on RTI, assessment and intervention have been acknowledged externally and Dr. Witt has received recognition in the form of Editor of School Psychology Quarterly, Editor of Guilford School Practitioner Series, Associate Editor of the Buros Mental Measurements Yearbook, School Psychology Review, and Tests in Print III, and Senior Series Editor, of the Buros/Nebraska Symposium on Testing and Measurement Series. In recognition of this work he received numerous awards including the Lightner Witmer award from the American Psychological Association for outstanding research and was honored as an LSU Distinguished Professor. Currently he is Professor Emeritus at LSU and lives and works in Miami, Florida where his primary focus is working with states, regional centers, publishers, and especially school districts to strengthen intervention services and RTI.


Lisa Moore, PhD
Chief National Consultant, iSTEEP Learning

Dr. Moore is the author of numerous scholarly papers and presentations. She has been a professor of psychology at LSU, practiced psychology, and consulted with numerous school districts. Currently she is a national trainer for iSTEEP and focuses on the training and implementation of RTI in schools.
